What to See in Phuket

Molly Patterson, April 4, 2023April 4, 2023

Phuket, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand is teeming with fascinating sights and attractions. Some like Phang nga bay are gifts of nature while others Phuket FantaSea are a tribute to man’s creativity. The island also is known for its beaches and is perfect for those seeking the sun and sea. Go beyond the beaches and there is plenty to catch your fancy.

Phang Nga Bay

The first thing that you see while descending to Phuket Airport is the fascinating view of Phang nga bay. The limestone karsts rising vertically out of the shimmering waters of the bay seem to stand like petrified cathedrals. The waters and the caves are teeming with wildlife. Day tours operate from Phuket that allow visitors to kayak in and out of the caves.

Phuket FantaSea

If you are traveling with kids, Phuket FantaSea will prove to be an ideal venue for a day of family fun. The theme park is an interesting blend of myth, legend, imagination and liberally sprinkled with show business to make the result all the more spicier. Wonders inside the park include flying elephants and wisecracking Siamese twins. You can also enjoy jaw-dropping airborne spectacles performed by acrobats and mock battles. There is also a bazaar within the premises that offers one of the largest buffets in Asia and also a fascinating Palace of Elephants. The park is located on Kamala Beach, one of the most happening beaches in Phuket.

Bangla Road Nightlife

The Bangla nightlife is considered to be the height of sensual pleasure. Every night at about 9 PM someone takes a figurative firework, lights it and steps back quickly; after that the action starts and continues to the early hours of the morning.

Simon Cabaret

The show is considered to be one of Southeast Asia’s outstanding attractions. The show comprises an all-transvestite cast and showcases the entire range of cultures from around the world.

Big Buddha

The Big Buddha is one of the island’s most and revered landmarks. The massive 45 metres high sits on the top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and is easily visible from a distance. From the lofty site, you can enjoy 360 degrees views of the island including Phuket Town, Kata and Karon beaches, Chalong Bay, and more.

Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong is one of the leading centres of Buddhism on the island. It is the most revered and impressive of Phuket’s 29 temples, dedicated to the two highly venerated monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang.

Old Phuket Town

Visiting the old quarter of Phuket Town is like browsing through a real-life museum. The town has distinctive Sino-colonial architecture and what the times were like 100 years ago when tin reigned supreme in Phuket and Chinese immigrants threw their entire lot in the tin mining industry.

Accommodation

Phuket is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand, every year attracting a large number of visitors most of who prefer to set base in Thailand villas or hotels located along the beaches. There is an accommodation type for all visitors – for those on a budget or those seeking all possible luxuries for a memorable stay.
